RESUMO

Several cytokines have been indicated to be significantly involved in urological diseases. Interleukin 17A (IL-17A) and interleukin 23 (IL-23) have recently received attention for their involvement in inflammatory diseases and cancers. The aim of the study was to show changes in the level of pro-inflammatory interleukins IL-17A and IL-23 in patients with bladder cancer (BC) and selected urological diseases. An important cognitive aspect was to study the interdependencies between the studied interleukins and to assess their diagnostic value for such diseases. The material for the study was urine sample from patients with BC, urinary tract infection (UTI), urolithiasis, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), US (urethral stricture), which was compared to the urine sample of healthy people without urological disorders. Interleukin concentrations were measured by the immunoenzymatic method. The levels of IL-17A and IL-23 in the urine of patients with BC, UTI, BPH and US were significantly higher compared to the control group. Statistically significant differences were found in the level of both interleukins compared to the control group in all diseases except urolithiasis. IL-17A and IL-23 correlated with each other in patients with all urological diseases except urolithiasis. The results of the conducted studies showed that selected urological diseases changed the levels of IL-17A and IL-23 in the urine of patients. The observations made confirmed the participation of these interleukins in the course of the urological diseases, especially in BC, and allowed to classify them as potentially useful parameters for diagnostic purposes.

INTRODUCTION: The AUA convened a 2021-2022 Quality Improvement Summit to bring together interdisciplinary providers to inform the current state and to discuss potential strategies for integrating primary palliative care into urology practice. We hypothesized that the Summit findings would inform a scalable primary palliative care model for urology. METHODS: The 3-part summit reached a total of 160 interdisciplinary health care professionals. Webinar 1, "Building a Primary Palliative Care Model for Urology," focused on a urologist's role in palliative care. Webinar 2, "Perspectives on Increasing the Use of Palliative Care in Advanced Urologic Disease," addressed barriers to possible implementation of a primary palliative care model. The in-person Summit, "Laying the Foundation for Primary Palliative Care in Urology," focused on operationalization of primary palliative care, clinical innovations needed, and relevant metrics. RESULTS: Participants agreed that palliative care is needed early in the disease course for patients with advanced disease, including those with benign and malignant conditions. The group agreed about the important domains that should be addressed as well as the interdisciplinary providers who are best suited to address each domain. There was consensus that a primary "quarterback" was needed, encapsulated in a conceptual model-UroPal-with a urologist at the hub of care. CONCLUSIONS: The Summit provides the field of urology with a framework and specific steps that can be taken to move urology-palliative care integration forward. Urologists are uniquely positioned to provide primary palliative care for their many patients with serious illness, both in the surgical and chronic care contexts.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Uroflowmetry is widely used for initial non-invasive evaluation of lower urinary tract disorders. Current clinical use is mostly restricted to a scrutiny of the maximum flow rate and uroflow pattern recorded by a conventional flowmeter in a health care facility. There are several advancements in our understanding and in available technologies that promise to transform clinical utilization of this simple test. RECENT FINDINGS: Several aspects of the uroflow test in addition to maximum flow rate and uroflow pattern show potential diagnostic utility. This includes flow acceleration, uroflow indices, uroflow-electromyography including lag time, stop uroflow test, and uroflow-based nomograms. There are initial attempts to use artificial intelligence in analysis. There is also new data with regard to factors influencing variability of uroflow testing that might influence the diagnostic value in as yet uncertain ways including diurnal variability, postural variability, locational variability, and operator variability. There are new technologies for uroflow testing in a home environment allowing for easy repetition. However, there are several challenges owing to a paucity of clinical data and standardization. There are also critical lacunae in terminology that need to be addressed. There are exciting new advancements in the field of uroflowmetry. However, there is need to standardize and validate the newer uroflow tracing analyses and technologies.

INTRODUCTION: Medical misinformation regarding COVID-19 immunization remains rampant and a public concern, and as such, there is a need for national studies evaluating the immunization's safety profile. We sought to quantify and analyze urologic adverse events and symptoms after COVID-19 immunization, compare these events reported between COVID-19 vaccine types, and compare these events reported following COVID-19 immunization relative to those reported following other immunizations. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective case-control disproportionality analysis by querying the Food and Drug Administration Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System for all reported symptoms following COVID-19 immunization through December 23, 2022, as well as for all non-COVID immunizations. RESULTS: Using a total of 704,231 event reports containing 2,982,187 symptoms related to COVID vaccination and a total of 770,975 event reports containing 2,198,993 symptoms related to all vaccinations other than COVID-19 for disproportionality analysis, no urologic symptom produced a positive signal when grouping all vaccinations. When stratifying by manufacturer, some symptoms related to Janssen vaccination were positive, but this may be in part due to overreporting secondary to media attention rather than a strong association between Janssen vaccination and urologic adverse events. CONCLUSIONS: Although there have been anecdotal reports of adverse events associated with the COVID-19 vaccine, our review of the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System database did not produce positive signals across all 4 measures for any potential adverse event. Our findings do not suggest increased scrutiny is required regarding these adverse events potentially related to the COVID-19 immunization. Further evaluation and analysis of the COVID-19 immunization is ongoing.

RESUMO

Since 1924, it has been possible to qualify as a specialist in urology in Germany. The first hospital departments for the treatment of urological conditions were established as early as the end of the German Empire and the Weimar Republic. However, the beginning of specialist medical care in the Bavarian administrative district of Upper Palatinate, often known as the "poorhouse" of Germany until the second half of the last century, was much later. Nevertheless, the lineage of "urological" activity here can be traced back to much earlier eras. Of course, it must be accepted that the evidence from times long past is weak. This is especially applicable when it comes to a topic such as the treatment of the sick and the preservation of health, which is not only considered a science but also often a central focus of life for us today, because in history it was often only mentioned in the fight against epidemics and in anecdotal descriptions. This is a circumstance which, when looking at the history of urology, gives rise to the hope of finding one or two interesting sources. This article not only aims to trace the history of the development of urology in a rural area from contemporary history to the present day, but also to explore the treatment of urological diseases in this region since late antiquity. Furthermore, we invite readers to look at other places of urological remembrance in a similar way.

Compared to a Western diet, the Mediterranean diet moves away from red meat and processed foods. Universally regarded as a healthier dietary alternative, the Mediterranean diet has garnered scientific endorsement for its ability to confer an array of compelling benefits. These health benefits encompass not only a lowered incidence of Type 2 diabetes with a reduction in obesity, but also a robust protective effect on cardiovascular health. Extensive literature exists to corroborate these health benefits; however, the impact of a Mediterranean diet on urologic diseases, specifically sexual dysfunction, lower urinary tract symptoms, stone disease, and urologic cancers are not well studied. Understanding how dietary habits may impact these urologic conditions can contribute to improved prevention and treatment strategies.A total of 955 papers from PubMed and Embase were systematically reviewed and screened. After exclusion of disqualified and duplicated studies, 58 studies consisting of randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, cross sectional studies, reviews and other meta-analyses were included in this review. 11 primary studies were related to the impact of a Mediterranean diet on sexual dysfunction, 9 primary studies regarding urinary symptoms, 8 primary studies regarding stone disease, and 9 primary studies regarding urologic cancers. All primary studies included were considered of good quality based on a New-Castle Ottawa scale. The results demonstrate a Mediterranean diet as an effective means to prevent as well as improve erectile dysfunction, nephrolithiasis, lower urinary tract symptoms, and urinary incontinence. The review highlights the need for additional research to study the impact of diet on urologic cancers and other urologic conditions such as premature ejaculation, loss of libido, female sexual dysfunction, and overactive bladder.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Ureteral injuries are the most feared complications of gynecological surgery and therefore intraoperative recognition is of the utmost importance. Intraoperative cystoscopy represents the diagnostics of choice to investigate ureteral patency thanks to the direct visualization of ureteral flows after administration of infusion mediums. In this study, we aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of saline versus mannitol intraoperative cystoscopy in terms of false negatives in a large cohort of patients. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data of patients who underwent vaginal hysterectomy and high uterosacral ligament suspension for POP. Patients were divided in two groups based on the use of saline or mannitol medium for intraoperative cystoscopy. Postoperative daily control of serum creatinine was performed until discharge, as well as urinary tract imaging, in symptomatic patients. RESULTS: A total of 925 patients underwent vaginal hysterectomy followed by high USL suspension for POP. Saline and mannitol medium were used in 545 patients and 380 patients respectively. Postoperative ureteral injuries were identified in 12 patients, specifically in 2% of the saline group and in 0.3% of the mannitol group. CONCLUSIONS: The use of mannitol instead of saline as a bladder distension medium was able to significantly reduce the occurrence of postoperative ureteral sequelae.

STUDY OBJECTIVE: To assess the duration needed for regaining normal bladder voiding function in patients with postoperative bladder dysfunction requiring intermittent self-catheterization after deep endometriosis surgery and identify risk factors that might affect the recovery process. DESIGN: Retrospective study based on data recorded in a large prospective database. SETTING: Endometriosis referral center. PATIENTS: From September 2018 to June 2022, 1900 patients underwent excision of deep endometriosis in our center; 61 patients were discharged with recommendation for intermittent self-catheterization and were thus included in the study. INTERVENTIONS: Intermittent self-catheterization after endometriosis surgery. MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: A total of 43 patients (70.5%) stopped self-catheterization during the follow-up period. Median follow-up was 25 weeks (range, 7-223 wk). Surgery was performed laparoscopically in 48 patients (78.7%) and robotically in 13 (21.3%); 47 patients (77%) had nodules involving the digestive tract, 11 (18%) had urinary tract involvement, 29 had parametrial nodules (47.5%), and 13 (21.3%) had sacral plexus involvement. The probability of bladder voiding function recovery and arrest of self-catheterization was 24.5%, 54%, 59%, 72%, and 77% at 4, 8, 12, 52, and 78 weeks, respectively. Cox's multivariate model identified preoperative bladder dysfunction as the only statistically significant independent predictor for arrest of self-catheterization (hazard ratio, 0.36; 95% confidence interval, 0.15-0.83). CONCLUSION: Patients requiring intermittent self-catheterization for bladder dysfunction after deep endometriosis excision may spontaneously recover bladder function in 77% of cases. Symptoms suggesting preoperative bladder voiding dysfunction should be reviewed before planning surgery, and patients should be informed of the higher postoperative risk of long-term bladder voiding dysfunction.

Purpose: Ureteral access sheaths (UAS) pose the risk of severe ureteral injury. Our prior studies revealed forces ≤6 Newtons (N) prevent ureteral injury. Accordingly, we sought to define the force urologists and residents in training typically use when placing a UAS. Materials and Methods: Among urologists and urology residents attending two annual urological conferences in 2022, 121 individuals were recruited for the study. Participants inserted 12F, 14F, and 16F UAS into a male genitourinary model containing a concealed force sensor; they also provided demographic information. Analysis was completed using t-tests and Chi-square tests to identify group differences when passing a 16F sheath UAS. Participant traits associated with surpassing or remaining below a minimal force threshold were also explored through polychotomous logistic regression. Results: Participant force distributions were as follows: ≤4N (29%), >6N (45%), and >8N (32%). More years of practice were significantly associated with exerting >6N relative to forces between 4N and 6N; results for >8N relative to 4N and 8N were similar. Compared to high-volume ureteroscopists (those performing >20 ureteroscopies/month), physicians performing ≤20 ureteroscopies/month were significantly less likely to exert forces ≤4N (p = 0.017 and p = 0.041). Of those surpassing 6N and 8N, 15% and 18%, respectively, were high-volume ureteroscopists. Conclusions: Despite years of practice or volume of monthly ureteroscopic cases performed, most urologists failed to pass 16F access sheaths within the ideal range of 4N to 6N (74% of participants) or within a predefined safe range of 4N to 8N (61% of participants).

BACKGROUND: Leukergy is the phenomenon of aggregation of leukocytes on a peripheral blood film, and in humans, it is used as an indicator of systemic inflammation and infection. OBJECTIVES: To assess the association of leukergy on blood film examination with biochemical and clinical evidence of systemic inflammation, infection, neoplasia, or specific organ system disease. METHODS: A case-control study using retrospective analysis (2017-2022) identified all canine and feline patients that had been presented to an academic referral center with a finding of leukergy on peripheral blood film and an equal number of species-matched controls. RESULTS: A total of 127 cases (canine n = 44, feline n = 83) were identified, as well as 127 controls. Feline samples were 7.6× more likely to exhibit leukergy (0.019%) than canine (0.0025%). A positive association was noted between leukergy and higher globulin concentrations in dogs (marginal difference 0.5 mg/dL, P = .016) and cats (marginal difference 0.67 mg/dL, P = <.001). Cats with leukergy had higher WBC counts and were less likely to be diagnosed with cardiac or urinary tract disease than controls. Dogs with leukergy had lower WBC counts and were more likely to be febrile but were less likely to have urinary tract disease than controls. No association was found with neutrophil toxic change or band forms, systemic antimicrobial therapy, or signalment. CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that there is a positive association between increased globulin concentrations and leukergy and inconsistent associations between leukergy and other markers of inflammation or infection. Leukergy is rare overall but markedly more common in cats than dogs.

STUDY DESIGN: Scoping review - standardized according to the Equator-network and the Prisma-Statement guidelines with PRISMA-ScR. OBJECTIVES: Review the literature concerning surveillance of the urinary- and renal systems in persons with spinal cord injuries (SCI). Specifically, to assess: #1 the usability of non-invasive and non-ultrasound methods, #2 the usage of systematic ultrasound surveillance #3 patient characteristics which predispose to urinary tract abnormalities (UTA) or renal function deterioration. METHODS: The literature assessed was collected from PubMed by creating a search string comprised of three main phrases: #1 persons with SCI, #2 kidney function and #3 surveillance program. The final search resulted in 685 studies. Eligibility criteria were defined prior to the search to assess the studies systematically. RESULTS: Four studies found serum cystatin C (s-cysC) to be accurate in estimating the glomerular filtration rate in persons with SCI. One study found no difference in UTA between surveillance adherent and surveillance non-adherent persons up to 30 years post injury. UTA and especially renal function deterioration seems rare the first 15 years post-injury. Non-traumatic SCI, time since injury, high detrusor pressure, upper urinary tract dilation, vesicourethral reflux, trabeculated bladder, history of calculi removal are significant risk factors for developing UTA or renal function deterioration. CONCLUSION: Measurements of S-cysC should be considered to replace serum creatinine in most cases. Surveillance non-adherent persons are not at higher risk of developing UTA. A selective surveillance based on a baseline risk profile may be beneficial for patients and caretakers.

Objetivos: Definir los tipos de enuresis de los pacientes con vejiga hiperactiva (VH) y estudiar su respuesta al tratamiento vesical diurno. Material y métodos. Estudio prospectivo y multicéntrico: pacientes con VH y enuresis, tratados con anticolinérgicos o neuromodulación durante 3 meses (2019-2021). Recogimos variables obtenidas del calendario miccional, cuestionario PLUTSS (Pediatric Lower Urinary Tract Score System), y relacionadas con la enuresis. Generamos 2 grupos de estudio: enuresis primaria (EP) y enuresis secundaria (ES). Consideramos respuesta parcial enurética (RPE) a la reducción del valor de enuresis inicial en más de un 50% y respuesta completa (RCE) el 100%. Finalmente realizamos un análisis multivariante para detectar factores predictivos independientes de RCE. Resultados. Incluimos 152 pacientes con VH, 109 de los cuales presentaban enuresis (71,7%): 29 ES (26,7%) y 80 EP (73,3%). El valor PLUTSS fue mayor en pacientes con EP que en ES (20,8 vs. 17,2, p= 0,001.) La RPE y la RCE fueron significativamente mayores en el grupo de ES (55,2% vs. 15%, p= 0,000 en RPE y 48,3% vs. 5%, p= 0,000 en RCE). En el análisis multivariante se identificó que los pacientes con ES tienen una probabilidad de responder al tratamiento vesical diurno 50 veces superior que los pacientes con EP (OR 49,79, IC95% 6,73-36,8). Conclusiones. La mayoría de niños con VH tienen una EP y no secundaria, por lo que generalmente la enuresis de estos pacientes no responde al tratamiento vesical diurno. Es importante caracterizar el tipo de enuresis de los niños con VH para plantear su tratamiento de forma adecuada.(AU)


Objective: To define the types of overactive bladder (OAB) patient enuresis and study daytime bladder treatment response. Materials and methods. A prospective, multi-center study of OAB patients with enuresis treated with anticholinergics or neuromodulation over 3 months from 2019 to 2021 was carried out. Variables achieved from the voiding calendar and PLUTSS (Pediatric Lower Urinary Tract Score System), as well as enuresis-related variables, were collected. Two study groups were created – primary enuresis (PE) and secondary enuresis (SE). Partial enuretic response (PER) was defined as a >50% reduction in baseline enuresis, and complete enuretic response (CER) as a 100% reduction. A multivariate analysis was eventually conducted to detect CER independent predictive factors. Results. 152 OAB patients were included. 109 of them (71.7%) had enuresis – 29 (26.7%) SE and 80 (73.3%) PE. PLUTSS score was higher in PE patients than in SE patients (20.8 vs. 17.2; p= 0.001). PER and CER were significantly higher in the SE group (55.2% vs. 15%; p= 0.000 in PER, and 48.3% vs. 5%; p= 0.000 in CER). In the multivariate analysis, SE patients demonstrated to have a 50-fold increased probability of responding to daytime bladder treatment than PE patients (OR: 49.79; 95%CI: 6.73-36.8). Conclusions. Most OAB children have PE and not SE, which explains why enuresis does not typically respond to daytime bladder treatment. Characterizing the type of enuresis in OAB children is important to adequately approach treatment.(AU)

OBJECTIVE: To identify any self-reported differences or attitudes towards certification, publication, or practice patterns between adult urology and paediatric general surgery-trained paediatric urology providers. There are no known published differences in clinical/operative/research outcomes in either group. METHODS: An 18-item cross-sectional survey was compiled through the EAU Young Academic Urologists (YAU) office and disseminated to a trans-Atlantic convenience sample of current practising paediatric urologists. This was created using a mini-Delphi method to provide current semi-quantitative data relating to current opinions and attitudes of this cohort. RESULTS: A total of 228 respondents completed the survey, with female respondents representing 37% and 34% for urology and paediatric general surgery, respectively. Nearly 90% overall respondents felt that a full 2-year paediatric fellowship program was very important and 94% endorsed a collaborative dedicated paediatric urology on call service, with 92% supporting the joint development of transitional care. Urology managed higher numbers of bedwetting (p = 0.04), bladder bowel dysfunction (p = 0.02), endourological procedures (p = 0.04), and robotics (p = 0.04). Paediatric general surgery managed higher numbers of laparoscopic reconstruction (p = 0.03), and posterior urethral valve ablation (p = 0.002). CONCLUSION: This study represents the first time that a cross-sectional cohort of paediatric urologists from different training backgrounds were compared to assess their productivity, practice patterns and attitudes. Paediatric urology is in a unique position to have two contributing specialities, with the ability to provide optimal transitional and lifelong care. We believe that there should be a strong emphasis on collaboration and to remove any historically-created barriers under policies of equity, diversity and inclusivity.

INTRODUCTION: Urology has seen shifts in the management of many urologic conditions with the advent of noninvasive procedures that rely on multidisciplinary radiological modalities. This study seeks to analyze changes in urologists, radiologists, and advanced practice providers (APPs) performing uroradiology procedures over time. METHODS: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Physician/Procedure Summary data from 2010 to 2021 were utilized to examine uroradiology Current Procedural Terminology codes billed by urologists, radiologists, and APPs. Percent of total reimbursement and higher volume procedure count (after excluding providers with <11 procedures by per year) by each provider field was calculated and analyzed for changes in distribution from 2010 to 2021. RESULTS: There were significant changes in all procedures when examining procedure reimbursement distribution in 2010 to 2021 (P < .001). During the period, urology saw decreases in reimbursement proportion as large as 28.7% for kidney cryoablation and increases as large as 14.2% for nephrostomy tube removals. Radiology saw the largest decreases in reimbursement proportion with an 18.9% decrease for nephrostograms, while the largest increase was 23.6% for suprapubic tube placements. APPs saw the largest increase in suprapubic tube changes reimbursement proportion, which rose 14.2% from 2010 to 2021. There were significant changes in proportion in all procedures, except for antegrade stent, renal cryoablation, renal biopsy, and renal thermoablation. CONCLUSIONS: Uroradiology procedures have seen shifts in the distribution of which provider type performs each procedure. Most large changes in reimbursement and procedure proportion were shifted between urology and radiology, with APPs seeing smaller changes.

Purpose: To conduct a systematic literature review with meta-analysis to identify whether antibiotic prophylaxis after removal of the indwelling urinary catheter reduces posterior infections. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted in the databases PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, Google Scholar, and Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature, using the keywords "antibiotics" AND "prostatectomy" AND "urinary catheter." Results: Three articles were identified having the scope of our review, with 1,040 patients, which were subjected to our meta-analysis revealing a marginally significant decrease in the risk of urinary infection after indwelling urinary catheter removal (odds ratio-OR = 0.51; 95% confidence interval-95%CI 0.27-0.98; p = 0.04; I2 = 0%). No difference was found regarding the presence of bacteriuria (OR = 0.39; 95%CI 0.12-1.24; p = 0.11; I2 = 73%). Conclusions: In our meta-analysis, there was a significant decrease in urinary tract infection with antibiotic prophylaxis after indwelling urinary catheter removal following radical prostatectomy.

OBJECTIVE: Unrecognized ureteral and bladder injury increase morbidity and mortality in gynecologic surgery. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the efficiency of a systematic intra-venous (IV) injection of carmine indigo to detect bladder injury in gynecologic vaginal surgery for benign disease. The secondary objective is to analyze the cost and use of carmine indigo. STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective, monocentric study was conducted in a tertiary hospital between January 2018 and October 2021. All patients undergoing a vaginal surgery of hysterectomy for benign disease or anterior prolapse were systematically included. Patients can be systematically included by the automatic coding of surgery. After anesthesia, during the patient's installation, an intravenous injection of 5 mL of intravenous indigo carmine (Carmyne®) diluted in 100 mL of physiological serum was systematically administered by the anesthesia team. Intraoperative cystoscopy was performed only in cases of suspected associated ureteral injury. RESULTS: We recorded 443 vaginal hysterectomies for benign disease and 95 vaginal anterior prolapse surgeries. There were 6 (1,4%) bladder injuries during vaginal hysterectomies and 1 (1,1%) bladder injury during vaginal prolapse surgery. All bladder injuries were diagnosed intraoperatively. No ureteral injury was diagnosed in this series of patients. No complication related to IV indigo carmine injection was found. In this tertiary hospital, 1085 ampoules of carmine indigo were ordered during the same period, approximatively 270 per year. The total cost to the gynecology and obstetrics department was 19,600 euros, or about 4,900 euros per year. Half of the carmine indigo was used in vaginal surgery and half in laparotomy, caesarean section and endometriosis surgery for suspected bladder or ureteral injury.

OBJECTIVES: Feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC) and urethral obstruction (UO) are commonly linked to increased stress. The influence of human movement restrictions on their incidence remains undetermined. FIC with or without UO is associated with environmental stress factors. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (COVID-19) pandemic restricted human movement and working behaviours. It is unknown if these restrictions increased the risk of FIC or UO in cats. METHODS: Total cat emergency accessions and transfers between 8 February 2019 and 8 February 2021 at two private hospitals were retrospectively reviewed. Cats were included in the FIC group if they presented with lower urinary tract signs and supporting urinalysis, and were included in the UO group if they presented with UO. Cats with current urinary tract infection, or previous FIC or UO, were excluded. Groups were considered 'pre-COVID-19' between February 2019 and 2020 and 'COVID-19' between February 2020 and 2021. Cases of FIC and UO were compared between COVID-19 and pre-COVID-19 using Fisher's exact test and relative risk (RR) calculations. RESULTS: The pre-COVID-19 incidence of FIC was 4.3% (63/1477, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.0332-0.053), non-obstructive FIC was 1.4% (20/1477, 95% CI 0.008-0.020) and UO was 2.9% (43/1477, 95% CI 0.020-0.038). One cat was excluded as obstruction occurred during hospitalisation. The COVID-19 incidence of FIC was 5.4% (113/2081, 95% CI 0.044-0.64), non-obstructive FIC was 2.1% (70/2081, 95% CI 0.014-0.027) and UO was 3.4% (70/2081, 95% CI 0.026-0.042). The risk of non-obstructive FIC (P = 0.122; RR 0.652, 95% CI 0.387-1.096), UO (P = 0.382; RR 0.839, 95% CI 0.577-1.22) or either (P = 0.098; RR 0.773, 95% CI 0.572-1.044) was not significantly higher in the COVID-19 period than the pre-COVID-19 period. CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: No clear association between COVID-19 movement restrictions and the incidence of UO or non-obstructive FIC was found within this retrospective population.
